2.10   A Little Scheme

It was no wonder that Feng Qi regarded Qi An as a passionate and talkative fellow. After Feng Qi introduced Hao Ritian to him, he started talking Hao Ritian’s ear off with extreme familiarity, not at all minding that he was flying solo since the person he wanted to chat with still hadn’t spoken a word to him.

This truly was a sad fact. Fortunately, Qi An had a big heart and had faith in Feng Qi. He knew that the character of someone Feng Qi valued so much definitely wouldn’t have a problem, and so, felt at ease to fool around.

That was, until—

Under Qi An’s chatterbox attack, Hao Ritian grabbed the lower back hem of Feng Qi’s shirt on his own accord and whispered in a small, irritated voice, “Uncle Feng.”

Qi An, looking like he’d been struck by thunder, “…”

Buddha, Jade Emperor, did he have tinnitus just now and mishear something?

Otherwise, why would he hear Ziwen, a friend he had just met, call Big Brother Feng…Uncle Feng?

Qi An absent-mindedly shook his head. No no no, he must have misheard. Ziwen was about as old as him. Qi An tried to imagine calling Big Brother Feng ‘Uncle’ and shook his head even more fiercely. That would surely be a scene of carnage, he refused to think about it!

In the middle of his trance, Qi An saw his Big Brother Feng look down at his new friend with delighted surprise. His tone even rose up by a degree as he asked with a hint of indulgence, “What’s wrong, Wenwen?”

Of course Feng Qi was surprised. Although it was already great that Wenwen responded to him, it was the first time he had ever interacted with Feng Qi on his own accord.

Hao Ritian, who noticed that Feng Qi’s address towards him had changed once again, became speechless. Feng Qi was practically the emperor of rapport. Whenever he had an idea or a plan, this guy appeared to spontaneously cooperate with him the very next minute. This sort of unconscious cooperation truly deserved praise.

Hao Ritian’s method of praise was quick and direct. His voice was a touch louder than before as he spoke to Feng Qi while endeavouring to meet his eyes instead of evading them, “I want to go back.”

Though he managed to make eye contact with Feng Qi, he was not able to control the shyness and unease in his eyes. They appeared watery making him seem all the more adorable.

All of Feng Qi’s blood bar rapidly went down. Only his formidable willpower stopped him from doing anything improper, though he still reached out to brush Hao Ritian’s long eyelashes. His fingers couldn’t help but rub back and forth after withdrawing his hand, and his voice—which was rather conspicuously husky—carried a hint of gentleness as he responded, “Your parents have matters to discuss. Let’s wait here for them to come out, okay?”

Qi An, meanwhile, felt like he was having an out-of-body-experience, and was about to ascend to heaven. This person before him must be a fake Big Brother Feng.

As a person with autism, summoning the courage to actively put forward a request was already incredibly difficult. There was no way he could make the request a second time after being refused—at least at the moment, he couldn’t. Moreover, what Feng Qi said was reasonable. So, Hao Ritian gripped his fingers and no longer said anything, accepting it silently.

However, Feng Qi was not satisfied with this situation. He wanted Wenwen to be able to freely and easily communicate with him, and the level they were currently at was far from satisfactory. He still had to work hard.

Feng Qi’s decision to not take Hao Ritian back to the private room had been correct, as Ou Yu and Mu Rou’s discussion was far from over.

Ou Yu was explaining the situation he had faced when Gu Qing went back on her word.

Due to Gu Qing’s reneging on her promise, Ou Yu’s situation at that time became extremely difficult all of a sudden. His voice, after all, didn’t carry enough weight and without Gu Qing mingling around, the pressure from both her Gu Family and his parents nearly overwhelmed him.

Ou Yu never denied that he had been weak and powerless then. Under Gu Qing’s intervention, it would’ve been difficult for Mu Rou’s side to get in touch with Ou Yu, let alone for the two of them to communicate rationally. And with Gu Qing’s skill and background, wanting to relay false information to a wage-earner like Mu Rou was as easy as pie.

Mu Rou was already undertaking enormous amounts of mental pressure after realising Gu Qing was Ou Yu’s wife, and she couldn’t not believe Gu Qing’s words, especially when Gu Qing showed the marriage certificate to her. It was under such stressful circumstances that she learned she was pregnant.

Taking a variety of reasons under consideration, Mu Rou ultimately chose to walk away. Regardless of whether Ou Yu had deceived her or if he had some ineffable troubles, she still couldn’t bear it. On the premise of her pregnancy, she didn't want to gamble on the possibility that Ou Yu would be able to live an easy and unfettered life with her again as they had previously done. She couldn't afford to gamble.

Ou Yu was weak at that time, but even so, the stubbornness in his bones was truly frightening. No matter what anyone said, he still resolutely divorced Gu Qing then searched for Mu Rou as soon as possible, wanting to apologise to her and ask for her forgiveness, no matter how long it took.

However, Mu Rou had long-since left in a tidy fashion when he went to search for her, leaving without a trace. The blow Ou Yu suffered could very well be imagined. During that time, he looked for her like a madman, the Gu Family became discontented with him because of Gu Qing’s matter while his parents also resented him for disgracing the Ou Family’s face, which led to his later disownment.

When he realised that looking for a vanished woman was like looking for a needle in a haystack, Ou Yu finally accepted reality and took over the deficit science and technology company his family gave away to him when they separated. He needed to work hard to run the company, needed more money and connections. His talent in business came into full-play once he made up his mind to throw himself into it. Apart from the portion of time he divided to search for Mu Rou, Ou Yu dedicated the rest of his time to work, and his efforts reached till the present level.

The results were also impressive. What was originally a measly deficit company, had turned tides under Ou Yu’s leadership and after more than twenty years of development, had an industrial value higher than its original with the Ou Family. His extended connections were beyond the Ou Family’s reach and nowadays, who didn’t praise Ou Yu for his impressiveness when he was mentioned? Ou Yu’s label was no longer Second Young Master Ou, but President Ou.

It could be said, other than for still not having found the person he’d been looking for, Ou Yu was already a winner in life.

In spite of Ou Yu’s matter-of-fact way of stating what had happened, Mu Rou could imagine how many challenges were included in his story. Ou Yu hadn’t had it easy either when compared to her, and her heart was not unmoved. However, now was not the time.

“So? What does this have to do with Ziwen?” She asked in a seemingly impersonal way.

Ou Yu shook his head with pain, “No, this has nothing to do with Ziwen. Listen to me finish first, I just want someone I can speak my true feelings with.”

That simple sentence almost made Mu Rou throw away her shield and armour. She watched Ou Yu silently, without hurrying him, apparently giving her consent.

Ou Yu wasn’t sentimental either and called a spade a spade, “I was really struggling at the beginning after being disowned. At the time, my big brother helped me a lot in secret so I’ve been very grateful to him ever since. I have two nephews. The eldest brother is Ou Siyu and the second brother is Ou Siyang. My big brother’s businesses will surely be handed over to Siyu in the future, and all these years, I’ve…”

Suddenly feeling a little uneasy, his eyes wandered, “I’ve been looking for you all these years, with no intention of getting married or having children in the future. Nearly everyone I have dealings with knows that, my brother knows that, so I once considered handing over the businesses under my name to Siyang if I never found you.”

Speaking of this, his expression chilled at once, “While I never out right said it, Siyang may have guessed it. But I never expected that for the sake of my properties, he would choose to stay silent after determining Ziwen is my son, and even planned to ruin Ziwen in the dark. He’s really grown up.”

He said the words ‘grown up’ with complete satire. This incident had bitterly disappointed Ou Yu. He wouldn’t say he was wholeheartedly devoted towards his nephew, but he had more or less treated him like his own child, and this was how his nephew repaid him?

It seemed his good intentions had raised his nephew’s appetite.

In that case—

Ou Yu looked into Mu Rou’s penetratingly cold eyes and solemnly swore, “AnAn, don’t worry. Ziwen is my son as well, I would never wrong him, even for my nephew. All my things are my son’s and no one can touch them. I’ll get to the bottom of things and see if Ou Siyang planned this on his own or if his parents were in the know. I will get justice for you and Ziwen, believe me.”

Since it was he who had raised Ou Siyang’s appetite, then only he could be the one to make Ou Siyang no longer able to even eat.

One had to say, Ou Yu’s determination to be impartial relieved Mu Rou. If Ou Yu had still been indecisive under this ample evidence, she wouldn’t have wasted her breath with him any longer.

Since she was pleased with Ou Yu’s declaration of his stance, Mu Rou’s expression warmed up significantly, “I hope you will turn your words into deeds.”

“Rest assured, I’ll keep my word.” Ou Yu nearly held up his hand and pledged, “But…”

Mu Rou cautiously narrowed her eyes at him, “But, what? Are you saying you want to back out seeing as your brother has helped you in the past?”

After saying that, her expression cooled once more.

Ou Yu promptly waved his hands, blurting out, “No, no, I would never be confused. What I mean is—our son is so big, shouldn’t we get married first and give the boy a right and proper identity?”

Afraid that Mu Rou would refuse, he explained nervously in a hurry, “It’s not that I dislike our son, but if we had a public relationship, wouldn’t you have the jurisdiction to sort Ou Siyang out at that time? After all, he did all these things for my assets, but if we get married, then no matter in law or in human relationship, our son would become my only heir. Of course, the fact that Ou Siyang did these actions is indirectly related to me, and I will accept any lesson you and our son meet out. What do you think?”

He even sported a cautious look on his face as he said the end of his piece.

Mu Rou took in his expression with equal measure of caution and suspicion, wanting to determine whether or not he was playing the pity card on purpose. However, she didn’t see anything after a long time, and instead started to think that Ou Yu’s pitiful expression was quite similar to her son’s, causing her heart to soften.

Of course, these were not the key points. What was most important was that Ou Yu’s words had struck a chord with her. Since Ou Siyang, or the whole Ou Family, had messed with her son for the sake of Ou Yu’s properties, she would take back the things that belonged to her son, fair and square, right under their eyes. This was an excellent means of revenge.

Originally, she had no thoughts of peeping into such things, but her son had unfortunately suffered due to conjectures created out of thin air. If she didn’t do anything, it would seem she was really pardoning them.

The fire in Mu Rou’s heart suddenly rose at this thought and under impulse, she immediately agreed to Ou Yu, “Alright.”

That one word was said forcefully and loftily. Mu Rou regretted it the instant it left her mouth, and thought she was being too impulsive. How could she agree to get married with Ou Yu as soon as they met again after 20 years? What’s more, she noticed that Ou Yu seemed to have smiled after she agreed?

She felt a little suspicious, feeling that she had been tricked. But when she looked carefully at him again, Ou Yu simply looked dazed from being hit with a pleasant surprise. She immediately suspected she was simply overthinking and being overly sensitive.

“That’s good. I’ll get things ready first and choose a good day to bring you and our son back. Afterwards, we’ll hold a banquet and introduce you two to everyone.” Ou Yu was so happy that he sounded incoherent, already starting to tick off plans with his fingers.

Mu Rou was now certain that she had been overthinking things, and seeing Ou Yu so excited, it didn’t feel right to go back on her words. She could only wait until he’d stopped talking before awkwardly speaking up, “Our son’s been out for a long time and I’m a little worried. Let’s go out and have a look.”

“Sure.” At this point, Ou Yu was downright just following her blindly.

Mu Rou had nothing else to say and was somewhat embarrassed by the space between the two of them. After lifting a strand of hair from her face to the back of her ear, she strode forward and out of the private room.

Ou Yu followed close behind her, a shadow of a smile playing on his lips. So many years had passed, and AnAn still couldn’t handle excitement. That little temper was honestly too cute. This made him feel like he was gradually recapturing the previously held emotion of love from before.

As for whether it had been a deliberate statement or inadvertent on his part, did it really matter?

In order to win the two—mother and son back, give them a better life, and make up for the regret of being unable to reunite for so many years as a family, what was the harm in playing a little scheme?

Author’s Note:

Mu Rou: Did you just smile?

Ou Yu with a panic-stricken face: No, no, no, no. You must’ve made a mistake, why would I smile?

Mu Rou, doubtful: Really?

Ou Yu: Really. Look at my sincere face.
