Ou Yu didn’t notice Hao Ritian’s skepticism. He simply puffed out his chest when his son looked over, trying to appear more imposing. It made Mu Rou want to cover her face.

Heaven knew twenty years had passed. How come she was still seeing this middle-aged man do the same childish actions he did when he was young? Even his son was more mature than him, alright?

All her struggles from before she came in had been fed to the dogs. She didn’t know if it was because Ou Yu’s enthusiasm was too infectious, but in a mere span of a meal—though Mu Rou didn’t want to admit it—she found herself reminiscing her feelings from the time she used to hang out with Ou Yu when they were young. It was a comfortable feeling, one that made people involuntarily relax.

The corners of her mouth had started to uncontrollably curve up since earlier on, but she forced herself to straighten her smile when she became aware of it. She could control her expression. However, her chaotic emotions weren't something she could control just because she wanted to.

Feng Qi didn’t even glance at Ou Yu. He wiped his mouth, stood up and walked behind Hao Ritian, reaching out to pat the top of his head twice, “Since you’re done eating, come walk around with me to aid digestion.”

For a very strong reason, Hao Ritian reflexively looked at Mu Rou. This unconscious reluctance to part made Mu Rou, this mother whose heart was about to break into pieces firmly stick back together. She wanted to say ‘No’, just then. After all, she really didn’t want her son to be alone with Feng Qi. However, just as she opened her mouth, she recalled the objective of this appointment.

Her mouth opened and Mu Rou looked encouragingly towards her son. She spoke softly, “Then, Ziwen, go out and walk around with your uncle Feng first. Mom will come find you later, okay?”

Ou Yu felt sorry he couldn’t spend more time with his son, but it was more important for this matter of his son being maliciously targeted to be resolved. There was still plenty of time for them to interact later. He was definitely going to make up for the twenty years of absence in his son’s development, and become close with his son. It would be even more wonderful if he could get his son to look at him with adoring and admiring eyes!

Hao Ritian had already left the private room with Feng Qi while Ou Yu was in the midst of his fantasy.

Once their son left, Mu Rou’s expression became harder and colder. She straightforwardly put everything out in the open and spoke bluntly, “Mr. Feng should have already told you about the findings, right? Who in the world can’t stand my son and used such malicious means to deal with Ziwen? I want to know what deep hatred the other person has for Ziwen.”

She said the two words ‘deep hatred’ through clenched teeth and with hatred on her face. She honestly couldn’t imagine what the aftermath would’ve been if her son had truly suffered through that treatment. So long as she thought of it, she wished she could tear the person harming her son limb from limb!

Mu Rou’s cold voice caused Ou Yu’s expression to sober up. His eyes quickly flew over Mu Rou’s face, and he was nevertheless a little disappointed that she was neither indifferent nor elated about meeting each other once more after twenty years.

The present them were not the happy lovers of the past, but parents of a child. However, it was precisely because they had a son, a pivotal existence, that they were also each other’s closest individuals. This was, in fact, a pretty great outcome for Ou Yu. Rather, he should say it was better than expected.

He quickly gathered his wits, and faced Mu Rou’s eyes without evasion, “No. Feng Qi still hasn’t told me anything, but has left behind investigation findings sorted into documents. I presume it’s to let us read it together.”

Mu Rou’s expression eased and her gratitude towards Feng Qi aptly rose again. He must have done this because Feng Qi had promised her, when he left yesterday, that he would inform her as soon as the investigation findings came out. Ou Yu was his friend, and was also Ziwen’s father. He had the right to know. But he had promised her first, so he chose such a compromise.

Seeing Ou Yu really take a document bag from the seat beside Feng Qi’s, Mu Rou curbed her extra thoughts and moved closer to read with Ou Yu. The above content was very detailed. It was so detailed that none of the process, from how Mu Ziwen was procured from school to ‘Wei Huai’, and what was intended for him after he was taken to ‘Wei Huai’, was carelessly omitted.

The more Ou Yu and Mu Rou read, the more unsightly their complexions became. By the time they had finished reading all the investigation findings, Mu Rou was looking wrathfully at Ou Yu’s direction, itching to slap him hard on the face. Although she knew she was taking her anger out on him, the one doing these things was his nephew, wasn’t it?

The look Ou Yu was sporting wasn’t any better than Mu Rou’s. He had shed his cultured and refined expression, and was emitting a frigid feeling from head-to-toe. Not a trace of his earlier silly appearance could be seen anymore.

He remembered, when his nephew came to his office to look for him at noon yesterday, he had tentatively asked whether his nephew thought there was an excellent junior at school. In fact, he simply wanted to know if his nephew might’ve come across his son at school. As a result?

Ou Siyang didn’t display a trace of peculiarity and instead, very dutifully, treated him to a meal with his first paycheque. Ha, what great psychological quality. He obviously must have already done a paternity test for him and Ziwen. He must’ve known Ziwen was his son, and yet, he found people to deal with his son, and at the same time, acted as though nothing had happened in front of him. Should he praise him for being very skillful?

His fury reached the peak, but contrary to expectations, he did not have a trace of expression on his face. He put the documents back into the bag and suddenly chuckled out loud. His laughter in this type of circumstances was goosebump-raising.

Even Mu Rou, who was very angry, felt that way. In order to dispel this uncomfortable feeling, she directly sneered at Ou Yu, “You sure do have a good nephew. What are you going to do?”

No one knew that when she voiced this question, she was actually apprehensive inside. One was his nephew who’d been at his elbow for more than twenty years, while one was a son he had just gotten to know. Who was more important? She really wasn’t willing to gamble.

However, Ou Yu’s perceptiveness was quite sharp, and after meeting once again, his familiarity and understanding towards Mu Rou automatically came back to him. Mu Rou’s apprehension had nowhere to hide in his presence. It was also because he could see Mu Rou’s apprehension that he was even more distressed.

Her body suddenly fell into a generous embrace, the man’s voice—husky due to guilt—was practically next to her ear as he spoke, “I’m sorry. I’m really so sorry, An An. I’ve let you and our son down.”

He repeatedly apologised, stroking Mu Rou’s back with his hand and comforting her as he did so. Even the eyes of a person as staunch as Mu Rou started to sting from such a warm and cherishing hug. But she still resolutely pushed Ou Yu away, persistently asking him, “You don’t have to say sorry to me. I just want to know, what are you going to do?”

Her son had suffered such a huge grievance. Nothing could make her let it pass.

Don’t think this matter would be glossed over just like that. If not for Feng Qi, her son would’ve been completely destroyed right now. She didn’t even dare to think about that consequence.

“Also, why does your nephew want to deal with Ziwen?” Mu Rou already felt extremely regretful on knowing Ou Siyang also attended Imperial University. She didn’t even need to think to know that Ou Siyang had become suspicious because of her son’s face, and later took action after identifying who he was. However, she didn’t understand what was his reason for doing it.

Ou Yu, who was pushed away, looked deeply at her, “I divorced Gu Qing not long after you left. The Gu Family and my parents were very dissatisfied with me because of this. In the end, my parents simply cut me off and only gave me an unprofitable science and technology company.”

Gu Qing was Ou Yu’s ex-wife. The Ou Family had built their fortune through electrical appliances, so their main business was still in the electrical appliances industry, and the science and technology company was not of much use in the Ou Family. They were basically abandoning Ou Yu by giving him a deficit science and technology company after separating him from the family. It was akin to expelling him from the family clan.

Mu Rou didn’t know why he had suddenly gone from talking about their son’s affair to this past matter, but she was, nevertheless, stumped by the contents of his words and didn’t interrupt him. She hesitated and struggled for a long time before asking, “What in the world happened back then? Are you…alright after all these years?”

She knew from Feng Qi that Ou Yu had gotten divorced a long time ago and had been looking for her all these years, but she never faced the matter. Maybe, she subconsciously didn’t want to face it. However, now that her son had been implicated, she would have to force herself to understand.

Ou Yu smiled bitterly at her question. He hadn’t cared about whether he was alright or not for a long time. Still, he stabilized his mood and continued talking as he recollected.

Ou Yu hadn’t been particularly interested in the company when he was young, despite his talent in business, since he had an older brother above him. His parents had tried multiple times to persuade him, only to have no choice but to compromise.

As for Gu Qing, it was his parents’ idea to have him form a connection through marriage with her. Although Gu Qing was a woman, her means were swift and decisive. She had made a lot of achievements soon after entering her company, and held a great deal of status in the Gu Family. Ou Yu was, of course, not willing to marry Gu Qing. He was earnest about feelings and naturally only wanted to marry a woman he sincerely liked.

However, the weight of his words wasn’t enough and his parents were pressuring him from above. Added to that, the Gu family were using coercion. At last, Gu Qing came looking for Ou Yu and told him that it was only a marriage alliance and they would have nothing to do with each other after they got married. When Ou Yu found someone he liked, they would divorce.

Under those reasons and so on, Ou Yu got married to Gu Qing.

It was at that moment that Ou Yu discovered that he was weak. Being unable to be the decision maker of even his own affairs provoked him into changing his former ways, and he started to work hard. Two years into his marriage with Gu Qing, he met Mu Rou.

Despite having been married for two years, Ou Yu never had physical relations with Gu Qing, and their two families were starting to complain about their childless state after two years of marriage. Ou Yu was somewhat overwhelmed and deliberately went on a business trip to temporarily leave the capital.

It was during this business trip that Ou Yu met Mu Rou, a strong, independent yet unfailingly kind woman who made him swiftly fall into the river of love. Meanwhile, Ou Yu’s gentle thoughtfulness and wit also attracted Mu Rou. The young couple experienced a warm and sweet romance, even planning to get married.

It was also at that time when Ou Yu realized he and Gu Qing were still husband and wife in name. After all, before then, he had absolutely no cognition of Gu Qing being his wife. In his opinion, the marriage was merely an agreement. He finally found a woman he truly liked—of course he couldn’t let his beloved woman carry a bad reputation. So, he intended to first settle this problem at hand and later apologize to Mu Rou.

Ou Yu chose to return to the capital first to get divorced with Gu Qing. Back then, Ou Yu was still a little ‘naive’ and didn’t expect Gu Qing to deal with him, while at the same time, secretly seek Mu Rou out. In the many years that followed, Ou Yu thought countless times to himself that if he had been more mature, more capable then, maybe the many subsequent years of separation wouldn’t have happened.

Unfortunately, nothing could be redone.
