Chapter: The Polluted World (6)
---
The officials from the Federation of Nations became drenched in cold sweat as they powerlessly stood in front of the big screen.
The soldiers on site
fell into a dead silence, not knowing whether to run for their lives or fight
using the dregs remaining of their weapons, giving their all for the last
struggle in the face of death.
In the landfill occupied
by a few thousands of soldiers and others, only the voices of the reporters
sounded out as they continued to stream the scenes live,
“Dear audience, despite
our soldiers putting up a heroic resistance, they were unable to damage the black
egg thingy! Now, those alien man-eating black worms possess an overwhelming
advantage over humanity. They have taken all our particle weapons away…” The
male reporter quickly explained as he pointed towards the going ons behind him.
At this time, in some
parts of the landfills, the smallest black vesicles’ outer membrane split open
to form a small opening. The entire outer layer was like a glorified grape
skin; and under the movements of the black ‘veins’, it slowly peeled off...
The reporter assigned to
this location was much more dramatic,
“That giant insect
cocoon that’s slowly opening up is the evil incarnate. It is like the gateway
to hell, it will swallow us whole! It signifies the complete and utter
destruction of humanity, as well as hope’s annihilator! Let us witness this
moment together!”
Meanwhile, in the hotel
System 2d14 anxiously
asked: [Lord Host! What’s actually contained in them?]
A certain alien’s
schadenfreude was sparked as he thought: Can I say, I purposely slowed their
movements in order to build up the atmosphere? Now, you should be feeling
scared, right?
“If I said I was an
interstellar monster, would you believe me?” The dark-haired youth teased his
family’s cutely stupid system.
System 2d14: [Ah? Lord
Host… R-really?]
Inside every landfill,
the smallest vesicles continued it’s slow unveiling. As the gap became wider
and wider, everyone on the planet held their breaths as they waited.
5 cm! 10 cm! 15 cm!
A certain alien watched
this scene with a languid smile. At this time, at this moment, humanity’s
concentration and attention had already reached its peak!
Suddenly, all the black
strands pulled in simultaneously! The vines leading to the outer membrane
swiftly retracted, the membrane was like a magician’s cloth as it was pulled
off of the vesicle and then was promptly moulded back into the black mountain
behind, revealing the contents inside!
Everyone was caught off
guard by the sudden change of tempo and received a huge fright. Their gazes
turned to watch in horror, the place the vesicle had once occupied!
Uh...
It was a plastic can!
To be accurate, it was a
7-8 story tall, huge transparent, cylindrical can. Four words were were written
on it:
Recyclable item: Glass
products
At the bottom of the can
was a series of small text: This container is biodegradable, time left until
degradation is 6 months.
The gigantic plastic
container was filled with all kinds of glass products and fragments, each and
everyone of them was completely cleaned, to the point where even the labels
glued on beverage bottles were gone.
In the hotel:
“Although glass is a
recyclable item, I can’t break it down.” A certain alien told his system as he
kept his eyes on the TV. “However, the bits that are stuck on the surfaces,
such as labels and the like, those I can decompose or breakdown.”
Starry eyed System 2d14
exclaimed: [Wow! Lord Host is awesome!]
In every landfill
Everyone stared blankly
at the scene in front of them. Even those fervent reporters found themselves
speechless. A few dozen seconds later, those on-site slowly came back to
themselves and started to murmur amongst each other.
“I didn’t see it wrong,
did I?”
“Inside, there really is
just glass?”
As for the reporter who
was waxing poems of death and struggle, gave a poor glance at the camera,
opening and closing his mouth several times, unable to produce a single word.
This was because he couldn't find a hint of similarity or correlation between a
pile of glass and the destruction of hope. ...
Only a few of those
within the Federation of Nations’ radical faction tried to come up with some
kind of reasonable explanation,
“Perhaps, those enhanced
mutant alien insects are still being nurtured inside the larger vesicles! Right
now we need to…”
But no one paid
attention to what they were going to say because the second black vesicle began
to split open!
This time, a certain
alien didn’t keep his viewers in suspense, and revealed the contents of the
vesicle to the people within a matter of seconds.
Uh...it was still an
enlarged plastic can.
It was labeled in a
similar fashion:
Recyclable item: Metals
The only difference from
the former was that this plastic container was noticeably larger and contained
several large plastic sealed bags labeled as aluminum, zinc, iron ... silver,
platinum, gold, and various other mixed metals.
Following closely, the third
vesicle also began to split open:
Non-recyclable item:
Various kinds of poisonous chemicals
Likewise, each chemical
was also separated by plastic sealed bags or glass jars.
Up until this point, the
whole world was in a state of uproar.
Could it be that these
black insects were a species with intelligence? They spent so much effort to
infiltrate our planet just to selfishly and respectfully offer… to help us sort
our garbage?
The world’s attention
gathered on the largest mountain.
Only to see the thick,
black fluid morph into a cubic shape before, from the bottom up (like a
sleeve), gathering at the top and displaying what was concealed within the
largest mountain.
A huge rectangular
plastic vat filled with what looked like a dark-brown paste-like substance. On
the outside of the vat were a sequence of words in large font:
Agricultural organic
fertilizer, product of degradation by black strands.
On the bottom was a
similar script as the previous vesicles: This plastic vat’s degradation time is
two years, please use swiftly.
In the hotel
A certain alien grinned,
“System 2d14, do you want to become famous?”
System 2d14: [Ah?]
Followed by a shy admission: [...I want to.]
And so, those black
strands that had just made their way to the top of the vat immediately
cooperated with each other as they shot into the sky forming a ‘magic
beanstalk’. At every landfill, they formed a line of large black words in the
sky above:
All pollution and
garbage has been cleaned up on B Planet, please maintain as is.
————Salvation Alliance
System zz2d14’s Host
“So it was a saviour’s
ability!!”
“All the pollution on
the planet has already been cleaned!!”
“System zz2d14 is our
saviour!”
At this time, the people
of Planet B slowly came out of their houses one after another, as they looked
up at the clear blue sky and the clean streets around them, not daring to
believe as they cried tears of joy!
The whole world fell
into a state of celebration as they ‘escaped from death’s clutches’ to this big
surprise!
The humans, with songs
and dance, formed groups of ⃞ ⃞ as they
moved towards the landfills to appreciate this historical, world defining
miracle!
System zz2d14 with a
face of bashful happiness said:
[Lord Host! Everyone out
there is praising me! They’re even saying my name!]
The dark-haired youth,
“I’ll keep it up there for another 20 minutes before handing in the mission.
Before we leave, I will let my black strands decompose into non-organic
materials.”
System 2d14: [En!]
During this time of
celebration, all the officials from the Federation of Nations, the exhausted
soldiers, the spit flying reporters, as well as the whole of B Planet’s
citizens were dancing and showing off! But they seemed to have forgotten about
a certain someone...
Z Planet
Huo Li was surrounded by
tens of thousands of Zergs, relying only on the ball of light blue energy
making up his shield to hold off the swarm of zergs, charging in the Zerg
King’s direction and leaving behind a path of slaughter!
The Zergs continuously
swarmed him. Just as when it seemed one of the zergs had its jaws ready to stab
through Huo Li’s body, it became engulfed by Huo Li’s mental power and changed
the trajectory to bite the Zerg behind Huo Li!
The Zerg rushed in like
waves, fighting to take any opening that was seen. However, once they made
contact with the blue light shield, they instantly changed targets to attack
their own comrades. This slaughter of thousands of Zergs caused their flesh and
bodies to fly around Huo Li. Looking at it from a distance, it was like a star
emitting flickering blue light amongst the dark clouds. However, there still
remained dozens of kilometers between it and the Zerg King, let alone the
millions of zerg separating them...
“099, are there any new
developments on B Planet?” Huo Li suppressed the agitation he was feeling, and
asked gravely.
System 099: [Lord Host,
the incoming messages from B Planet stopped a few hours ago… From ever since
they sent us ‘The Black Insects are Nurturing Upwards to Hundred Thousand
Mutant Evolutions’ message in extreme panic, there have been no more updates on
the situation.]
Huo Li’s expression
darkened, he silently sent out a wisp of energy at the front of his starship
unit, ensuring that the Zerg King and his positions were completely covered by
the densely packed Zergs:
Several dozens of
kilometers away, the dozens of Zerg guards surrounding the Zerg King suddenly
turned to their King and bit him! Yet, the Zerg King didn’t make any moves to
defend itself, allowing its subordinates to consume it, leaving behind only a
puddle of blood and flesh.
After accomplishing
this, Huo Li used the opening created by the chaos within the Zerg armies as
they felt their king disappear, to make his way to the surface of Z Planet with
his now pitifully small ball of blue mental energy. He sent a message to the
mothership,
“I have already severely
injured the Zerg King and broken through their encirclement. Now, we need to
retreat to our positions and hold them until I get back.”
“099, submit a request
for a portal to be opened between Z Planet and B Planet!”
System 099: [Lord Host,
a portal can only be opened on a planet’s surface, should I set it on the peak
nearest to you?]
Huo Li, “Set it up.”
System 099: [Ding!
Positioning set, peak’s height is 12044 meters, distance from your current
location is around 30,000 meters. Ding! Portal starting up.]
Huo Li sped in the
peak’s direction!
[Ding! Distance to the
portal: 2000 meters.]
Huo Li could already see
the portal’s golden glow at the top of the peak, and so, picked up his speed.
[Ding! 10 seconds to
transport: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3…
Ding! Mission has ended!
Illegal route! Transport…]
The glowing portal
instantly vanished in front of Huo Li.
Bang!!! Rumble!!!
Going 400km/hour, Huo Li
had no time to react before slamming head first into the side of the cliff!
System 099: [...The
portal was forcefully shut down]
