Lawyer Chen's ultimate goal was to have the eldest young master Yan sign the authorisation which would mean completing the work entrusted to him by Ms. Yan Wenyan. So, he didn’t mind Yuan Wenyu flipping through the contract without permission. In any case, the final result wouldn’t change.
As for how the eldest young master Yan would deal with the shares received on signing the contract, that had nothing to do with a lawyer like him. Lawyer Chen pushed up his glasses that had slid down, and took in the expressions of those present.
Yan Yongan who received Yuan Wenyu’s hint, froze. If he could, of course he wouldn’t readily surrender so many shares. As long as he got a hold of those shares, his word would become the law in the company. Nobody could reject his decisions. How could he possibly refuse such a heady temptation?
It’s just—
When he looked into his son’s sad yet doubtful eyes, Yan Yongan wasn’t able to do this act of open robbery. It wasn’t that he was loathe to do it. He just knew that his son had matured now and wasn’t as easy to deceive. If he didn’t slowly map it out, his son would become wary of him and nearly two years of work would be in vain.
Deep in his heart, he had realised that since his mother’s passing, his son no longer trusted and admired him like he had in the past. No matter how unreconciled or unwilling he was, he could only take the contract from Yuan Wenyu, quickly thumb through it and pass it on to his son, “This is something your mother left you. There’s no problem with it, sign it!”
Yuan Wenyu’s face changed on the spot, turning ashen. Did Yan Yongan really want to hand over the shares on a silver platter?
In her desperation, she was almost unable to maintain her gentle image. It was Yan Yongan, who stopped her with his sharp eyes and nimble hands, signaling sneakily to her with his eyes, that made it so that she didn’t lose her self-control.
She placed her right hand on her chest and pat herself; just then, her heart beat so rapidly that her chest seemed to hurt with each breath she took. She told herself to calm down. She knew exactly what kind of person Yan Yongan was. How could he possibly give away such big benefits to a young boy? Only after repeating this countless of times did she manage to calm down.
And yet, her eyes couldn’t help but become glued to the contract, wishing that the person the shares would be transferred to was her or even her son. Unfortunately, to think that it would go to that idiot Yan Qi. She couldn’t stomach it.
Yan Yang and Yan Yue. Of the two, one was gloomy, and the other arrogant and willful. Nonetheless, how could they not be interested in matters of financial interest? Yan Yang was doing better. He had learned the truth a long time ago, so he was mentally prepared. But Yan Yue was different.
She screamed on the spot, “Why is it like this? Me and older brother should have a share of the company, how could it be given solely to Yan Qi?”
She didn’t know about other things, only that she was the only young lady of the Yan family. Nobody could take away what belonged to her, especially Yan Qi. She absolutely wouldn’t let him profit from nothing.
One could say that the words Yan Yue screamed were the same ones the inner voices of everyone present had considered, with the exception of Lawyer Chen and Hao Ritian. However, Yuan Wenyu rebuked her the first chance she got, “Shut up. How can you say that? Quickly apologize to your brother!”
There was never a time she had regretted not educating Yan Yue better than she did now. Yan Yue had learnt none of her tolerance and shrewdness. Even if these were her inner thoughts, how could she say them out loud so straightforwardly?
If Yan Qi were to grow distant with them, would they even get a chance to scheme afterwards?!
This stupid daughter was practically about to kill her with anger. She could almost feel Lawyer Chen’s unusual gaze land on her. From the start, she’d occupied the seat as a mistress. If others were to believe she was so shallow-eyed, and scheming to snatch away her stepson’s assets, would she still have any face left?
These things weren’t for her to say. Even if they were said, it had to be Yan Yongan’s face saying them to look good. They were father and son. A father wanting to take care of his son and manage his company for him was open and aboveboard!
Yuan Wenyu was not at all polite this time. She immediately twisted Yan Yue’s ear and asked her to apologize to Hao Ritian.
Yan Yue was dumb struck. The sting in her ear made it all the more unbelievable to her, and she screamed again, “Why should I apologize? I’m not going to! You’ve all been bribed by Yan Qi, I hate you!”
After shouting that, she pushed Yuan Wenyu’s hand away and ran out of the study, even slamming the door with a loud bang.
For a while, the atmosphere in the study turned somewhat delicate. Yan Yongan felt even more humiliated.
A daughter’s debt is her parents’ burden. If the father doesn’t do anything then the mother has to take up the responsibility. Yuan Wenyu, after multiple changes in her expression, apologised to Hao Ritian with embarrassment in her daughter’s behalf, “Qiqi, your sister isn’t usually like this. She’s in the wrong this time and auntie will teach her a lesson. Don’t take this to heart!”
Hao Ritian looked playfully at Yuan Wenyu as he twirled the pen Lawyer Chen had just handed to him in a circle. Yuan Wenyu’s heart jumped. She felt like there was something very wrong with her stepson. The next moment, however, she thought she may have imagined it due to her nervousness, because Hao Ritian looked away and replied with a good temper, “That’s all right. I know she was just thinking too much.”
He didn’t hesitate this time, signing ‘Yan Qi’ in two big characters.
Yuan Wenyu helplessly watched Yan Qi’s name be written onto the authorisation and felt her heart hurt. She didn’t even make out what Hao Ritian meant by ‘thinking too much’ and just urgently wanted to discuss countermeasures with Yan Yongan.
There was a sudden knock on the door. Hao Ritian had no interest in staying with Yan Yongan’s family anymore. So he kept one of the signed contracts for himself, gave the other to Lawyer Chen, and casually opened the door to the study with the contract in hand.
Outside the door, Wei Zhichen put down his hand and looked down at him, “Is it over?”
Hao Ritian shook the contract, looking a little devilish, “Of course.”
Afterwards, he straightforwardly put his arm around Wei Zhichen’s shoulder and spoke in rather high spirits, “Let’s go, I’ll treat you to drinks tonight.”
Wei Zhichen looked a lot more relaxed. His eyes didn’t stay on anyone other than Hao Ritian for even a full second. He was very pleased with his invitation, “Let’s go then.”
The two left side by side. Yan Yongan and the others were stunned by their harmonious atmosphere.
Lawyer Chen had already placed the contract within his bag. He nodded his head at the husband and wife, “This humble person has completed Ms. Yan Wenyan’s the entrustment and will take my leave.”
Soon, only Yan Yongan, Yuan Wenyu and Yan Yang, who hadn’t said a word the whole time, were left in the study.
Yuan Wenyu would be truly stupid if she still didn’t realize there was a problem. Her heart trembled and she grabbed hold of Yan Yongan’s arm with great strength, like she could find a thread of security that way, “Yongan, what did second master Wei mean? Since when did Qiqi and second master Wei develop such a good relationship?”
In this quiet atmosphere, her voice which clearly wasn’t high, still sounded deafening.
Yan Yongan shook uncontrollably but quickly recovered, appearing unflustered as usual. He pat the back of her hand that was gripping him, “Relax, Yan Qi is my son after all. I can’t let an outsider deceive him. Once he comes back, I’ll give him a good talking to.”
Though he said this confidently, inside, he wasn’t as certain. He felt as though things were completely different from what he had imagined, and that he had never truly seen the son he’d believed to have been within his grasp all this time, clearly.
If that was the case, didn’t that mean his son had been playing with them the whole time?
How could that be?
Surely not. Yes, he must be thinking too much into it.
The gloom in Yan Yang’s forehead became heavier. He stared at the door of the study with frightening paranoia. But Yan Yongan and Yuan Wenyu did not notice his peculiarity.
Meanwhile, Hao Ritian who’d left the Yan House with Wei Zhichen was feeling good, spending time with Wei Zhichen in a world meant for two. They had candlelit dinner, then went straight to bed.
After spending the night in a flowing and lucid manner, Hao Ritian lay comfortably sprawled over Wei Zhichen, his big hand stroking his back with perfect strength, making him squint. His nose could smell the scent of tobacco and when he looked up, he could see the man’s extremely handsome visage. Such enjoyment was hard to give up. Once he thought about how he was going to leave the world soon, he even felt reluctant!
System, “Host wouldn’t have forgotten that this is just a mission world, right?”
The system caught on to the host’s fluctuating emotions and promptly gave a heads-up. The host couldn’t drop the ball!
Hao Ritian, “Don’t you worry, I can still tell what’s important and what’s not. Maybe I’ll meet a guy as high quality as Wei Zhichen in the next world!”
System, “…”
It really had worried for nothing. Suddenly, it pitied Wei Zhichen a little. It always felt like its host was a big slag, but also knew that there had always been mutual consent between the two of them. Besides, the host’s mentality was more conducive to the task this way. So, it didn’t say anything.
The hand on his back moved up to the back of his neck, and even gently pinched it. The man’s voice, languid after doing the deed, spoke low and deep, “What are you thinking about?”
Hao Ritian pressed all his weight onto him, and after hearing him speak, lifted his hand to touch the bit of stubble on his chin. His eyes were half-lidded with sleepiness. He said lazily, “I’m thinking about you!”
Afterwards, carried away by a whim, he shifted up and bit the man’s throat.
Wei Zhichen held him down, his eyes darkening instantly and the fire in his body surging up once more.
Feeling the familiar hard object pressing against him again, Hao Ritian gave a hoarse chuckle, having no intention to refuse. He directly plucked the cigarette butt from the man’s lips and conveniently threw it away. Their lips met and they quickly became entangled once again.
……
At the Yan company’s headquarters, all the senior executives knew that the chairman of the board would be making a public appearance today, and that the chairman was president Yan’s eldest son, the eldest young master Yan. Allegedly, eldest young master Yan was only 20 years old. Just yesterday had been his twentieth birthday, when he simultaneously inherited 55 percent of the Yan company’s shares; becoming the rightful person in power.
The senior executives each had their own agendas, but most shared the same standpoint. They were worried that this extremely young chairman would meddle chaotically in the company’s affairs and create a pandemonium. Unfortunately, the shares in the other party's hand had determined his standing. Even if they all united, their voice wouldn’t be as powerful as his. This was a worrying concern to many.
So, early in the morning, the company was pervaded by an extremely solemn and tension-filled mood. The employees were also influenced by the atmosphere, and all held their breaths, afraid of making a careless mistake and being caught and chastised by their leader.
In such an atmosphere, Hao Ritian arrived in the company.
